Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to take comprehensive measures to eliminate illegal weapons and prevent their public display across the province. The move comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance public safety and curb violent incidents associated with unlawful firearms.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for a strict crackdown against aerial firing, particularly during Eid celebrations, which have historically led to accidents and casualties. She instructed the Crime Control Department (CCD) to implement targeted operations and ensure that offenders are brought to justice without delay.
In a parallel development, Maryam Nawaz approved “The Punjab Surrender of Illicit Arms Act 2026”, a new legal framework designed to regulate firearms and encourage individuals to voluntarily surrender illegal weapons. The legislation sets out clear guidelines for confiscation, penalties, and rehabilitation programs, aiming to reduce the proliferation of unauthorized arms and maintain law and order in both urban and rural areas.
The Chief Minister stressed that eliminating illegal weapons is not only a law enforcement priority but also a social responsibility to protect communities and ensure the safety of citizens. She urged all district administrations and law enforcement agencies to collaborate closely to implement the directives effectively.
