Pakistan’s diplomatic role expands as Iranian FM meets Field Marshal Munir twice in 24 hours ahead of Moscow visit

Islamabad/Moscow: Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help ease tensions in the Middle East and contribute to global peace have entered a more active phase, with intensified high-level contacts taking place in multiple capitals.

According to sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir for the second time within 24 hours during a brief but important visit to Islamabad. The talks reportedly centered on the possibility of a lasting ceasefire and wider regional security concerns, with both sides exploring potential steps toward de-escalation.

Sources say that, as part of Pakistan-facilitated engagement, Iran has presented flexible proposals to the United States. These reportedly include a willingness to keep a key maritime route open for international trade, along with suggestions to postpone complex nuclear-related matters and prioritize an immediate ceasefire.

In response, the US President is said to have welcomed the progress, noting that “Iran’s sensible people can now coordinate through phone consultations.”

After concluding meetings in Islamabad with Field Marshal Asim Munir, Abbas Araghchi travelled to Russia, where he is expected to meet President Vladimir Putin. Diplomatic sources say the visit aims to brief global powers on developments linked to Pakistan-supported peace efforts and to build wider international backing for the initiative.

Meanwhile, the US President also reiterated praise for Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He further referenced recent regional military developments involving India, repeating claims regarding an aerial clash and describing it as evidence of Pakistan’s military strength.
