Stockholm: The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three American scientists — John Clark, Michel Doret, and John Martines — for their revolutionary experiments in the field of quantum physics.
According to the Nobel Committee, these scientists conducted experiments that practically confirmed the principles of quantum mechanics and paved new paths for quantum technology. Their research laid the foundation for quantum computing, quantum cryptography, and highly sensitive scientific instruments.
These experiments were carried out in the 1980s using superconducting electrical circuits, which for the first time enabled large-scale observation of quantum effects.
John Clark, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, expressed his happiness upon receiving the award, saying, “This is the technology behind devices we use today, like mobile phones.”
Michel Doret, born in France, is currently affiliated with Yale and the University of California, USA. John Martines, former head of Google’s Quantum AI Lab, resigned from the position in 2020.
Nobel Committee Chairman Ole Eriksson said, “Quantum physics is a century-old field, yet it continues to drive modern innovations.”
This year’s Nobel Prize carries a cash award of $1.2 million (approximately 330 million Pakistani Rupees), which will be shared among the three scientists.
