Congress’ budget deadlock triggers US govt shutdown

Washington: The United States government has entered a shutdown after Congress failed to approve the necessary funding bill. As a result, approximately 75,000 federal employees are not receiving their salaries.

According to international sources, the shutdown has disrupted operations across several government agencies, leading to the suspension of many essential services. The Senate’s inability to pass the budget has caused significant interruptions nationwide.

The political divide between Democrats and Republicans remains intense, with both sides blaming each other for the shutdown. Former Vice President Kamala Harris accused Republicans of causing the shutdown by refusing to increase funding for public health programs. On the other hand, Republican Speaker Mike Johnson held the Democrats responsible for the government closure.

This shutdown echoes the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, which lasted 35 days between 2018 and 2019. Negotiations are ongoing as officials seek a resolution to reopen the government and resume services.
