ISLAMABAD: In a decisive step to reinforce Pakistan’s cricketing foundation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has declared that all international cricketers must participate in at least one domestic tournament each season.
This landmark decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, aimed at strengthening the domestic cricket structure and preparing for upcoming international series.
Strengthening Domestic Cricket for Future Success
The meeting, which reviewed preparations for Pakistan’s forthcoming cricket engagements, highlighted the importance of integrating international stars with domestic players.
PCB officials believe that this move will not only boost the quality of domestic competitions but also serve as a vital grooming platform for emerging talent. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stressed, “A strong domestic structure is essential for producing top-quality cricketers. It also provides a solid backup for our national side.”
By mandating international players to compete locally, the PCB hopes to create a more competitive environment, helping young players gain valuable experience alongside seasoned professionals. This will, in turn, ensure a smoother transition for future national team call-ups.
Upcoming Tours and Strategic Planning
During the meeting, Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla provided updates on upcoming tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh, as well as home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The session was attended by key personnel, including Head Coach Mike Hesson, COO Sameer Ahmed, Team Manager Naveed Akram Cheema, High-Performance Director Aaqib Javed, and Team Captain Salman Agha.
The PCB also discussed the Pakistan Shaheens’ upcoming series and the initiation of work on new central contracts, aiming to keep the national team well-prepared and motivated.
This holistic approach reflects the board’s commitment to elevating Pakistan cricket at both domestic and international levels.
