Tokyo: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, leading a high-profile delegation, engaged in strategic talks with Japan’s Senior Deputy Minister for International Affairs, Matsuiwataki Heko, at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry in Tokyo. The meeting marked a significant step towards deepening technological and economic ties between Punjab and Japan.
During the discussions, Maryam Nawaz unveiled ambitious plans to infuse Punjab’s critical sectors — including transport, agriculture, manufacturing, environmental sustainability, healthcare, and IT — with cutting-edge Japanese innovations. A standout proposal was inviting Japanese firms to pioneer hydrogen and hybrid vehicle production hubs in Punjab, signaling a push towards greener mobility solutions.
The Chief Minister highlighted her vision to revolutionize Punjab’s agricultural landscape by introducing advanced Japanese machinery such as tractors, super seeders, and threshers, aimed at empowering local farmers and enhancing productivity. She presented a comprehensive blueprint for establishing a one-stop agricultural supply center, streamlining access to vital tools and technologies under one umbrella.
In a move to attract and simplify foreign investment, Maryam Nawaz announced the launch of a dedicated facilitation desk designed to eliminate bureaucratic barriers, complemented by robust support from the Punjab Investment Board and the federal ‘SIFC’ initiative. This ecosystem is crafted to ensure investors enjoy seamless engagement and operational ease.
Looking ahead, she extended invitations to Japan’s pioneering companies to invest in emerging tech sectors like artificial intelligence, robotics, and gaming at the Nawaz Sharif IT City. Additionally, she pitched opportunities to enhance healthcare infrastructure through joint ventures at the Nawaz Sharif Medical District, leveraging Japan’s advanced medical technologies.
Expressing a keen interest in adopting Japan’s best practices, Maryam Nawaz emphasized her commitment to fast-tracking Punjab’s socioeconomic growth and positioning the province as a leading investment hub. The government’s efforts also include nurturing Green and Small Industrial Zones to foster sustainable industrial expansion.
Deputy Minister Matsuiwataki Heko lauded Punjab’s progressive business reforms and expressed enthusiasm for strengthening economic cooperation, reinforcing Japan’s resolve to support Punjab’s development journey.
