US imposes new sanctions on Iran, targets missile funding networks

Washington : The United States has announced a fresh set of sanctions against Iran, focusing on ships, companies, and individuals accused of supporting Tehran’s ballistic missile program.

The latest measures are designed to disrupt financial channels that Washington says are being used to fund Iran’s weapons development. The sanctions specifically target 12 vessels, along with several corporate entities and individuals. Any assets they hold under US jurisdiction will be frozen, and American citizens and businesses are barred from conducting financial transactions with them.

Officials stated that the move aims to cut off revenue streams believed to be financing military procurement and backing allied groups in the region. The sanctions are part of President Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that Iran has allegedly exploited the global financial system through illegal oil sales, using the proceeds to acquire weapons and support groups that Washington classifies as terrorist organizations.

Alongside the economic measures, the US has strengthened its military presence in the Middle East. Two aircraft carriers and a large number of fighter jets have been deployed, signaling increased preparedness for any potential military escalation involving Iran.
