US-Iran technical talks under Islamabad MoU set for Switzerland on June 21

Islamabad: Technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Sunday, June 21, with officials from Pakistan and Qatar also participating in the discussions.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the talks will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, as part of the follow-up process after the signing of the Islamabad MoU. Representatives from the US and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, are expected to attend the meeting.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan remains committed to supporting the dialogue process and will continue to play its role as a facilitator in efforts aimed at promoting regional peace, stability, and diplomatic engagement.

The upcoming meeting is intended to build on the understandings reached under the agreement and prepare the groundwork for the next phase of negotiations.

Meanwhile, US Vice President J.D. Vance expressed optimism about the ongoing diplomatic efforts, saying discussions with Iran are expected to take place on Sunday and that developments so far have been encouraging.

He noted that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already in Switzerland for the talks and added that he may also travel there within the next few days.

On the Iranian side, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the Iranian delegation would soon depart for Switzerland to participate in the negotiations. He stressed that Tehran would seek full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding and urge all parties to uphold their commitments.

Baghaei stated that Iran has fulfilled its obligations under the agreement and expects the other side to do the same. He cautioned that continued violations could undermine the understanding reached between the parties and warned that Iran could take appropriate measures if commitments are not honored.
