Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to make immediate and effective arrangements in light of the potential risk of urban flooding in Punjab due to heavy rains. He emphasized that every possible effort should be made to ensure the safety of citizens.
During an emergency meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, the NDMA Chairman briefed about the rising water levels in the Chenab River and the serious flood threats in the Head Marala and Head Khanki areas. The meeting was informed that over 2,000 trucks are ready for evacuation operations, and NDMA has provided 5,000 tents in Punjab.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed all administrative agencies in Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore to make immediate and complete arrangements to handle urban flooding to prevent any damage. He also stressed the priority of restoring electricity, communication networks, and roads.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of coordination among provinces to tackle the flood situation and assured full federal support to Punjab, similar to the assistance provided to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also directed strengthening the early warning system for flood surges in Sindh to enable timely action.
