PM Shehbaz stresses urgent need for investment in flood protection measures

Narowal: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Narowal, which has been severely affected by floods. Officials gave them a detailed briefing on the current flood situation and ongoing relief efforts.

Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik stated that during the first phase of the monsoon, heavy rains were experienced in the hilly areas, which have now spread to the plains. Due to abnormal rainfall in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Sialkot region, rivers have overflowed, with water flow reaching dangerous levels especially in Khanki and Qadirabad.

He also emphasized the need to construct new small dams for water storage and directed the preparation of short, medium, and long-term policies.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the exceptional role of the Punjab administration and rescue agencies, noting that Narowal is one of the worst-affected districts and relief efforts are being accelerated. She mentioned arrangements for water and fodder for livestock in the affected areas and highlighted the services of thousands of clinics. She also acknowledged the significant involvement of the Pakistan Army in relief operations.

Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, informed that crops in Narowal have been severely damaged and several roads have been cut off.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the rescue, police, PDMA, and Pakistan Army personnel in Punjab for their round-the-clock efforts and appealed to the public to strictly follow government instructions to ensure the protection of lives and property.
