Lahore: Punjab is facing a severe flood situation due to the highest inflow of water in Pakistan’s rivers in the last 38 years. At the Jassar point on the Ravi River, an extremely high flood level has been recorded with a water flow of 240,000 cusecs. Director General of the Disaster Management Department, Irfan Ali Kathia, stated that such a volume of water in the Ravi River has not been seen since 1988.

A major flood surge is expected to pass through Shahdara tonight, posing significant risks to the area. The Chenab River is also experiencing severe flooding, the most intense in the last decade, with 128 villages already submerged in its vicinity.

Water from the Head Khanki works will pass within a few hours, but the pressure of water remains very high. The Sutlej River has also been experiencing intense flooding for the past 8 to 10 days, with water levels exceeding 200,000 cusecs at Ganda Singh.

Disaster management authorities have warned that until the floodwaters pass Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab will remain at serious risk of flooding, and the public has been advised to take precautionary measures.
