Islamabad (Web Desk): Citing the prevailing security climate in Pakistan, the U.S. Embassy Islamabad has temporarily halted all visa-related appointments across the country.
In an official notice, the embassy confirmed that scheduled visa interviews at its Islamabad facility, along with those at the U.S. Consulate General Lahore and the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, have been called off. The suspension will remain effective until March 6, 2026.
Authorities described the move as a precautionary step taken in response to security concerns. Routine consular services, including visa processing, will stay paused during this period.
Applicants impacted by the cancellations will receive direct communication regarding revised appointment dates. Officials have advised individuals to regularly check the contact details they provided at the time of booking for further updates and instructions.
The expanded suspension follows an earlier action in which all visa interviews and American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments scheduled for March 2 were scrapped at diplomatic missions in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
A security advisory issued on March 1 indicated that officials were closely observing reports of demonstrations outside the Lahore consulate and gatherings near the Karachi consulate. It also referenced calls for additional protests outside the embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate General Peshawar.
As part of safety measures, American government personnel in Pakistan have been instructed to restrict travel and remain indoors unless absolutely necessary until further guidance is provided.
The US mission has also encouraged its citizens in Pakistan to remain alert, avoid crowded places, stay informed through reliable local sources, and ensure their enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) remains up to date.
