UK imposes new visa restrictions on Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan

London : The United Kingdom has introduced strict new visa measures affecting applicants from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan, following a notable rise in asylum requests from nationals of these countries.

Under the updated rules, student visa applications from these four nations will be temporarily halted. In addition, work visas for Afghan citizens have been suspended as part of the broader immigration overhaul.

Officials explained that the policy shift comes in response to a surge of asylum claims from individuals who initially entered the UK on student or work visas before seeking refugee status. To address this, the government has activated an “emergency brake” mechanism for the first time, designed to ease pressure on the immigration and asylum system.

The authorities emphasized that the move aims to curb irregular migration, prevent misuse of legal visa channels, and maintain greater control over the UK’s immigration framework.

This decision is expected to affect prospective students and skilled workers from the affected countries and has drawn scrutiny from human rights organizations and immigration experts concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the new measures.
