Govt urges citizens to save fuel amid potential shortages

Islamabad: The government has appealed to the public to adopt measures to conserve petrol and diesel to prevent any potential shortages in the near future.

The request was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which focused on strategies for fuel conservation and prudent use of resources amid the ongoing regional uncertainties.

Officials stressed the importance of being ready for all possible scenarios and adjusting plans as situations evolve. Citizens were encouraged to share rides, use public transport wherever feasible, avoid non-essential travel, and limit daily commuting to reduce fuel consumption.

Prime Minister Sharif instructed all relevant departments to stay alert and prepared to implement emergency measures until the situation stabilizes. He also noted that the government’s ongoing austerity and savings programs have already provided relief to the public.

The meeting confirmed that the country currently has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet domestic needs, with additional stock being arranged as a precaution.

Given the ongoing instability in the Middle East and its possible impact on fuel supplies, authorities indicated that further conservation measures may become necessary soon.

The Prime Minister also directed that a detailed emergency management plan be developed in coordination with provincial governments to effectively respond to any critical situations.

The meeting was attended by Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces, and Muhammad Asim Malik.
