Pakistan, Iran agree to expand cooperation on security, counterterrorism

Islamabad : Pakistan and Iran have agreed to strengthen collaboration across several important sectors, including security, counterterrorism, cyber security, and immigration affairs, following high-level discussions between the interior ministers of the two countries in Islamabad.

The agreement emerged during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, where both sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations and discussed recent developments in the regional landscape.

During the meeting, Minister Momeni conveyed his appreciation for the hospitality and cordial reception extended to Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the accompanying delegation during their recent visit to Pakistan.

Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the Iranian government on the joint declaration announced at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, describing the development as a notable diplomatic accomplishment. He said the achievement reflected the determination and effective leadership demonstrated by the Iranian authorities.

The Pakistani interior minister reaffirmed Islamabad’s longstanding commitment to supporting peace and stability at both regional and global levels. He emphasized that Pakistan would continue to contribute constructively to efforts aimed at fostering lasting peace and security across the Middle East.

The two ministers also underscored the importance of closer coordination and enhanced cooperation to address shared challenges and further strengthen ties between the neighboring countries.
