Pakistan’s diplomatic role enhances global standing, says Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday said Pakistan’s successful diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran has reinforced the country’s reputation as a promoter of peace and a contributor to regional security.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Dar stated that Pakistan acted as an honest and neutral facilitator during a critical period, helping create conditions for dialogue between Washington and Tehran. He said the country’s efforts played a significant role in reducing tensions and averting a potentially dangerous escalation that could have resulted in substantial loss of life.

The foreign minister highlighted Pakistan’s broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at advancing peace and stability, including its involvement in facilitating negotiations held in Switzerland.

He commended Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership and support in advancing the peace process, describing their contributions as instrumental to the success of the diplomatic efforts.

Dar said the benefits of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are gradually beginning to emerge, particularly in the economic sphere. He pointed to the recent decline in petroleum prices as one of the positive developments associated with the agreement.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities, the deputy prime minister said the country remains committed to promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful settlement of disputes as essential tools for achieving long-term regional stability, security, and economic prosperity.
