Train Tickets to Go Digital with Card Payments Nationwide

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Allied Bank Limited to implement Point of Sale (POS) systems at 348 railway stations across the nation, marking a significant step toward modernization.

The digital rollout will enable passengers to pay for tickets and services using debit and credit cards, phasing out manual cash transactions.

This initiative supports the government’s broader “Digital Pakistan” vision and is expected to be fully implemented within 60 days.

Streamlined Services and Reduced Queues

Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced the plan, noting that the POS system will drastically reduce long queues at ticket counters and enhance the overall travel experience.

He emphasized that digitization will also improve transaction transparency and operational speed at railway stations.

The POS terminals will make it easier for travelers to buy tickets and services instantly, eliminating the hassle of carrying cash.

Curbing Financial Losses and Fraud

The minister added that introducing card payments is expected to curb revenue leakages, accounting errors, and financial fraud—longstanding issues in the railway sector.

Pakistan Railways anticipates that this digital payment system will make operations more accountable and accurate.

This partnership marks a major milestone in the transport sector’s shift to a tech-enabled, user-friendly ecosystem.
