New Delhi :The Modi administration’s foreign policy, once touted as bold and assertive, is now being criticized for lacking substance and strategic depth. The recent events surrounding Operation Sandur have laid bare India’s growing diplomatic isolation, as no major global power came forward to openly support New Delhi.
In stark contrast, Pakistan received vocal diplomatic backing from influential countries like China and Türkiye, reshaping the regional dynamics and raising serious questions about India’s standing in international affairs.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari publicly criticized Prime Minister Modi’s foreign policy, stating,
“Not a single country openly stood with India during Operation Sandur. Modi’s global tours have been reduced to photo opportunities with little to no tangible diplomatic gains.”
Tiwari also referred to the now-infamous slogan “Ab ki baar, Trump Sarkar”, saying it has backfired. During the crisis, former U.S. President Donald Trump distanced himself from India and instead offered mediation, effectively recognizing Pakistan as an equal party to the conflict.
According to political analysts, India’s reliance on aggressive rhetoric rather than cohesive strategy is beginning to erode its diplomatic capital. Despite frequent international visits by Prime Minister Modi, meaningful global alliances appear to be waning.
The silence of global powers during a crucial moment has led many to believe that India’s foreign policy under Modi is more optics than outcome, and unless recalibrated, the country risks deeper isolation on the world stage.
