Islamabad: Pakistan marked its 78th Independence Day with a prestigious awards ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where national civil and military figures were recognized for exceptional service, leadership, and valor.
President Asif Ali Zardari led the ceremony, bestowing the nation’s highest civilian and military honors on those who played significant roles in the recent “Battle for Justice,” as well as in national development and defense.
Among the top recipients was General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, who received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu were awarded the Hilal-e-Jurat for their strategic leadership and courage, while Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
In recognition of outstanding diplomatic and national contributions, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Several federal ministers, advisors, and diplomats were also conferred the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
Honoring the courage of the Pakistan Air Force, multiple PAF pilots received the Sitara-e-Jurat, while fallen heroes were posthumously decorated with the Tamgha-e-Jurat and Sitara-e-Basalat. High-ranking officers, including the heads of intelligence and military public relations, were recognized for their bravery and leadership.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, top government officials, military leadership, and foreign dignitaries. The event concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold Pakistan’s sovereignty, honor its martyrs, and continue serving the nation with dedication and unity.
