“Bail is not acquittal — denying the facts is self-deception: Atta Tarar’s Response

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, clarified that receiving bail should not be mistaken as the conclusion of a legal case. “It is incorrect to assume that the accused has been exonerated merely because bail has been granted,” he stated during a press briefing.

The minister urged those celebrating bail to “face reality” and stop misleading themselves and others. His comments came in the context of the high-profile £190 million mega corruption case, in which the founder of PTI was sentenced to 14 years in prison, based on substantial evidence.

Tarar emphasized that during the trial, the accused failed to justify why billions worth of property were transferred to a real estate tycoon, and the court found the evidence sufficient to prove guilt.

Highlighting a key legal distinction, he stressed: “There is a clear difference between bail and acquittal under the law. Rejoicing over bail while the case is still ongoing is premature and misleading.”

Addressing the May 9 incidents, the information minister reiterated that the planning behind those events is evident and that investigations are actively progressing.

He also noted that the £190 million scandal involved approvals behind closed doors, and all those involved would be brought to justice.
