Islamabad : Under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, a weekly review meeting was held to assess the progress on the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tax assessment systems, and other reforms.
The Prime Minister emphasized making tax returns simpler, more user-friendly, and accessible in the Urdu language to facilitate the common taxpayer. To support this initiative, he ordered the establishment of a dedicated helpline to assist taxpayers in filing their returns efficiently.
The meeting was also briefed on the rollout of digital invoicing, aimed at integrating small and medium-sized enterprises into the online system to ensure transparent and automated issuance of invoices during business transactions. This system has already facilitated the issuance of billions of rupees worth of invoices within a short period.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif described these reforms as a historic milestone in Pakistan’s tax administration, highlighting that the use of AI in tax assessment will enhance transparency and efficiency. He also instructed the FBR to launch digital invoicing and other user interfaces in Urdu, ensuring broader accessibility.
Further updates included progress on the central command and control center for FBR and the introduction of cargo tracking systems to enable real-time monitoring and better tax enforcement.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding the tax base, easing the tax burden on the lower-income groups, and ensuring that tax reforms prioritize the convenience of ordinary citizens.
