Islamabad/Karachi – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a significant reduction in electricity prices for consumers nationwide, issuing a notification that cuts the tariff by Rs. 1.79 per unit.
This reduction is part of the monthly fuel price adjustment for July 2025 and will apply to all government-owned distribution companies, including K-Electric. Consumers will benefit from this decrease starting with their electricity bills for September 2025.
According to the notification, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had initially recommended a reduction of Rs. 1.69 per unit for July. However, NEPRA, prioritizing public interest, approved an even larger decrease of Rs. 1.79 per unit.
This move is expected to provide relief amounting to approximately Rs. 24.5 billion to electricity consumers across the country.
The government has been striving to standardize electricity tariffs under its unified tariff policy. Both the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the federal cabinet had earlier approved the implementation of a uniform fuel charges adjustment mechanism nationwide.
On August 19, the ECC approved a summary presented by the Power Division, following which NEPRA reviewed the policy guidelines and issued the current decision.
This initiative aims not only to bring transparency to electricity pricing but also to ease the financial burden on consumers facing rising inflation, delivering much-needed economic relief.
