Pakistan-China dialogue reaffirms CPEC 2.0, strengthens security and strategic cooperation

Beijing : Pakistan and China have reiterated their unwavering support for each other’s core national interests, further solidifying the strength and resilience of their strategic partnership.

This reaffirmation came in a joint statement issued after the Seventh Round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, held in Beijing. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The communiqué highlighted that China expressed its strong backing for Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. Beijing also praised Pakistan’s continuous commitment to countering terrorism and its growing role in both regional and global affairs.

For its part, Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the One-China principle, emphasizing that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. Islamabad also expressed its full support for China on sensitive issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea.

The two sides emphasized their determination to deepen their “ironclad” friendship by expanding mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthening strategic coordination. They aim to achieve new milestones under their All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

A highlight of the talks was the announcement of a series of commemorative events to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The two countries agreed that these celebrations would further strengthen bilateral ties and open new avenues for cooperation.

The dialogue reaffirmed the enduring nature of the Pakistan-China relationship, which both sides regard as vital for regional peace, stability, and development. China commended Pakistan’s extensive efforts in combating terrorism and safeguarding Chinese citizens and assets in the country, acknowledging Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism.

Both countries reiterated their firm stance of zero tolerance toward terrorism and committed to intensifying cooperation in counterterrorism and security matters. They also pledged to work together to ensure the smooth and safe continuation of the China-Pakistan Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The two sides agreed to further align their development strategies and prioritize cooperation in key sectors such as industry, agriculture, and mining. They emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of Gwadar Port, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity along the Karakoram Highway, and enhancing Pakistan’s long-term development capacity.

Both nations also vowed to deepen collaboration in trade, investment, information technology, science and innovation, cybersecurity, and technical education. They welcomed third-party participation in CPEC projects, provided it aligns with the agreements between Pakistan and China.

Additionally, the two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in the financial and banking sectors, supporting each other at regional and international multilateral financial platforms. They also expressed satisfaction with the expansion of their space cooperation and welcomed Pakistan’s expected participation in the China Space Station.

Pakistan and China stressed the importance of a South Asian regional order rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and universally recognized norms. Both sides opposed unilateral actions and stressed the need for peace and stability in South Asia, advocating for the resolution of outstanding disputes through dialogue.

China reiterated its position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, describing it as a legacy dispute that should be resolved peacefully in line with the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions, and bilateral agreements.

The two sides also agreed to closely coordinate on Afghanistan, encouraging the Afghan authorities to establish an inclusive political system, pursue moderate policies, and maintain constructive relations with neighboring states. They emphasized the need for Afghanistan to play a positive role in regional stability and integration, and to take concrete steps to eliminate terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.
