Mumbai: A groundbreaking study has uncovered that nearly 9 out of 10 students in India are now leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle mental stress and emotional challenges. This reliance on AI is especially prominent among teenagers aged 13 to 18, who increasingly turn to technology for emotional relief.
The research reveals that 57% of young users, mainly from smaller towns, trust AI platforms more due to privacy concerns, preferring to seek support from AI rather than traditional human interactions.
Surveying 506 individuals aged 13 to 35, the study investigated how AI is being adopted by youth—whether for enhancing creativity or managing mental well-being.
More than half of the participants reported using AI to voice their emotions, receive guidance, and discuss sensitive issues they might hesitate to share with others. The trend is strongest among early teens.
Notably, 43% of respondents come from smaller urban areas and frequently use AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, with females slightly outnumbering males at 52%.
This emerging pattern underscores AI’s increasing importance as an accessible mental health aid, particularly in regions where conventional counseling resources are scarce.
